Since its opening on 20^th October 1965, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade (MoCAB) has played a key role in the preservation and development of contemporary art in the territories of the Former Republics of Yugoslavia. Today, the policy of the Museum is based on the observation of contemporary art in Serbia, the Balkan region, and, as much as it is possible, in Europe and worldwide. With a fund consisting of over 8000 artworks, MoCAB holds the most relevant collection of art from the Yugoslav art space which existed from 1900 to 1991.

After a 10-year long reconstruction, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade reopened in 2017 with the exhibition Sequences. Art of Yugoslavia and Serbia from the Collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art. Since its reconstruction, MoCAB has held three major retrospective exhibitions: Ilija Šoškić Action Forms, Dragan Ilić (Re)Evolution and Marina Abramović The Cleaner, which runs until January 2020. Other notable exhibitions include: Travelling the World. Art from Germany. Artworks from the ifa Collection, 1949 to the Present that was organized in partnership with the Goethe-Institut in Belgrade, and In Touch With, an inclusive exhibition intended for blind and visually impaired audiences.

The Salon of the Museum of Contemporary Art is a part of the Museum of Contemporary Art, a gallery that is located in Belgrade’s city center and that started off four years before the Museum of Contemporary Art at Ušće was opened. It was the first gallery in Belgrade with permanent exhibition activity and a clearly defined concept. The Salon’s exhibition practice was at all times centred on younger artists and the latest tendencies in the art world, as well as on presenting the work of prominent foreign artists. Almost all major visual artists from the former Yugoslavia had the opportunity to present their work to the audience in Belgrade in a solo exhibition. The Salon is open for theme-centred exhibitions authored by curators concerned with contemporary tendencies who are given the opportunity to have their projects realized. Thus, the Salon maintains its role of the most prestigious exhibiting space in Belgrade, at the same time occupying a thriving position on the global scene.

The Salon of the MoCAB has also been continuing its rich programme by organizing several exhibitions in the past year: The Projector by Dušica Dražić and Vim Janseen, the Dragan Petrović photography exhibition, the exhibition of the artistic duo diSTRUKTURA, the exhibition of young female artists Women’s Stories and Where Do We Go, and How Long Will it Take – which is the second part of an exchange between the Salon of the MoCAB and Neue Galerie im Höhmannhaus in Augsburg, Germany. The latest exhibition in the Salon is The Scene, a solo exhibition by artist Nikola Marković.
